Eritrean Cycling National team wins Amissa Bongo competition

Asmara, 28 January 2019- The Eritrean Cycling National Team emerged victorious at the 14th Amissa Bongo Cycling competition held in Gabon from 21 to 27 January.

The Eritrean national team comprised Daniel Teklehaimanot, Metkel Eyob, Henok Mulubrhan, Biniam Girmai, Sirak Tesfom and Aaron Debretsion.

Sirak Tesfom won the “King of the Mountain of Amissa Bongo” competition while Henok Mulubrahan “Best Young Rider”.

At the competition in which Niccolo Bonifazia from the French Team ‘Direct Energie’ became overall winner, Sirak Tesfom stood fifth, Metkel Eyob sixth, Daniel Teklehaimanot ninth and Henok Mulubrhan tenth and at a team level Eritrea emerged winner.

The Amissa Bongo cycling competition is one of the renowned cycling races in Africa. Cycling National teams from Eritrea, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Algeria, Morocco, Mauritius, Cameron, Gabon and Burkina Faso as well as renowned teams from France, Italy and South Africa took part.
