Messages of congratulations

Asmara, 16 November 2018- Various countries as well as regional and international organizations sent messages of congratulations to the people and Government of Eritrea in connection of the lifting of sanctions.

In a statement released by the Office of the Prime Minister, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia congratulated the people and Government of Eritrea on the lifting of the sanctions that has been imposed on Eritrea. The message went on to say that the lifting of the sanctions will have far reaching effects in improving the stability of the Horn of Africa region and that Ethiopia reiterates its commitment to ensuring regional peace, development and cooperation working hand-in-hand with the State of Eritrea and other neighboring nations.

In a statement by the UAE Government congratulating the people and Government of Eritrea for the lifting of sanctions said that the initiative will have significant contribution in the peace and development of Eritrea as well as the development cooperation in the region.

In the same vein the Governments of the Republic of Djibouti, Federal Republic of Somalia, Libya, as well as the European Union sent messages of congratulations to the people and Government of Eritrea.

The Chairman of the African Union Commission, Mr. Mousa Faki Mahamat welcomed the adoption by the UN Security Council of a resolution lifting the sanctions imposed on Eritrea and that is further step towards improvement of bilateral relations between the countries in the region.

The head of EU Policy of International Relations, Ms. Federica Mogherini said that the recent meeting the leaders of Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia held in Ethiopia followed by the UN Security Council resolution lifting sanctions on Eritrea, offers an unprecedented opportunity to accelerate reconciliation and economic integration for all countries of the Horn of Africa.
