Commendable implementation of development programs

Asmara, 17 December 2018- At an assessment meeting conducted on 13 and 14 December, the National Union of Eritrean Women (NUEW) Executive Board reported that commendable achievement has been registered in 2018 in terms of improving the livelihood of members as well as ensuring equitable opportunities of women.

At the meeting in which representatives from the six regions as well as from Europe, America and Saudi Arabia took part, the President of the union, Ms. Tekea Tesfamicael said that the issue of women is issue of the society and that combating practices and perceptions that hamper the development of women should be tackled by the integrated effort on the part of the government institutions.

Indicating that the vision of the NUEW is to realize gender equality in all sectors, the participants conducted extensive discussion on the Eritrean Government policy on women’s issues, strengthening capacity of women and increasing the awareness of the society on the rights and obligations of women.

At the meeting reports regarding activities conducted to eradicate harmful practices and their consequences, ensuring social justice, participation of women in education, as well as role of media in the development of public awareness on issues of women and their outcome were presented.
